This tune was actually a part of the soundtrack & score to Jakob’s Wife, and is a cover of the Concrete Blonde track from 1989. The director of Jakob’s Wife, Travis Stevens, asked if I would cover it for the film. Dean ( the co-producer on WAR) & I collaborated on it, creating a beefy, filthy version that was so much fun that we decided to create a version for the WAR album. It just felt right to have it on there, even though it’s a bit of a departure from the album’s narrative. A nice detour.
Dean & I both used our Polyvoks synths ( he has one too) which is one of the nastiest, grubbiest sounding synths ever, manufactured in the Soviet Union in the early 80s. The whole thing is based on a drum part programmed on the Arturia Drum Brute Impact, processed through the Moogerfooger Clusterflux.
